How Many Syns Are In Walkers Baked?

Walkers’ Baked line of crisps are made by baking the potatoes instead of frying them, this means they need to use a lot less oil and therefore a lot less fat to make them. They come out ridges, a little lighter and with a lighter flavour at the end of it. They were introduced as the spotlight on healthy eating and the obesity epidemic swept the UK, and continues to do so.

With their healthier angle over Walkers classic – how does the Walkers Baked range compare to them and all other crisps in the league table? Has the baking process made them much better or is it just a fad? Let’s find out.

Walkers Baked Syn Values

Walkers Baked come in a variety of different sizes, the grab bag is 37.5g (meal deal) and multipack bag is 25g. We’re going to cover both. There is no difference in calories or syns when it comes to the other flavours which are sea salt, cheese and onion, salt and vinegar and prawn cocktail. Also, regardless of bag size the syns per gram will also be the same, more on this later.

  • A grab bag of Walkers Baked weighs 37.5g and contains 164 calories. This means that a 37.5g bag of Walkers Baked is worth 8.2 syns.

This is comparable to Seabrook, Frazzles and Eat Real Quinoa Chips. It’s also similar to Walkers Classic but their bags are 5g lighter!

Are Walkers Baked worth the syns?

Walkers Baked are made with healthier eating in mind and they have done so – Walkers Baked are in the top 3 in terms of syns per gram (0.22) which means there is less fat per gram that most. Only two crisps are better, Yushoi Peas and Wotsits and Baked are just above Squares.

Of course this all means nothing if you just don’t like the taste, but if you do then these are brilliant and means you can actually enjoy more food per syn than with others.

How does this compare to Walkers Classic? Well, the Classic range syns in 32g is 8.5, so you get 5g more crisps with the same syns, they also have a syns per gram of 0.26 vs 0.22 in Baked. Beats them hands down and makes you realise what the oil does to the crisp.
