PepsiCo’s Doritos are great as a dipping tool or just to eat right out of the bag with their tortilla base and their punchy and powdery flavour. And let’s not forget the famous triangle shape as well. They’re fantastic in any setting be it a meal deal snack, or poured into a bowl as finger food at a party.
Doritos come in 180g big bags for sharing, 48g grab bags and 30g multipacks.
We all know crisps aren’t healthy but some are unhealthier/healthier than others by being more calorie dense – are Doritos on the good side or the bad side and how many syns are there in the various bag sizes? What about the different flavours? Let’s find out.
Doritos Syn Values
Starting from the smallest bag to the biggest. All three flavours of Doritos – Chilli Heatwave, Cool Original and Tangy Cheese all contain the same calories and therefore syns, so you can use the below syn values whichever you’ve chosen.
- A 30g bag of Doritos contains 150 calories. This means that a 30g bag of Doritos is worth 7.5 syns.
This is a similar value to Wotsits, Transformers and Frazzles.
- A 48g grab bag of Doritos contains 240 calories. This means a 48g bag of Doritos is worth 12 syns.
This is similar to McCoy’s and Walkers MAX.
- A mega 180g bag of sharing Doritos contains 900 calories. This means if you ate a whole bag it would be worth 45 syns.
Doritos have a syns per gram ratio 0f 0.25, this is the same no matter what bag size you have and can therefore be compared to any other brand of crisps out there. If you want to find out how Doritos compare, read on…
Are Doritos Worth the syns?
Doritos are slightly different to most crisps as they are just as popular as a snack as they are in a sharing bowl with dips, therefore the answer to whether or not the syn cost is worth it depends on how much you love them and how they’re eaten. Dipping Nik Naks or Pom Bears just isn’t feasible, for example.
Looking at the syn to gram ratio of 0.25, this puts Doritos in the middle, closer to the bottom. Syns per gram is an indication of how calorie dense the food item is, how much of the weight of the crisp is energy – the higher the ratio the higher the fat content is likely to be. The above crips syn list contains all crisps and compares them all at the same time.
Other crisps with the same ratio are Hoola Hoops, Space Raiders and Pom Bears.
